CLIMBING / ABSEILING
1. Falling Fatality Instructor: client to rope ratio will not exceed 1: 2, an assistant instructor would
permit 2: 4 and is reduced for specialist courses to 1: 1.
When moving off the ground above 1.5 metres clients will be attached to a safety
rope.
When using Gri-Gri’s, the instructor will lower climber to the ground.
Instructors will closely supervise belaying by clients.
Harnesses will be correctly fitted when worn by participants.
The instructor should ensure they are correctly protected at all times.
Verbal risk disclosure - Stay in group, awareness of local hazards.
Instructors to make sure clients are supervised at the top at all times.
Instructor to spot during movement across exposed areas. Rope to be used on
exposed edges.

Major injury Hair to be tied back. Loose clothing tucked in or removed.
For Abseiling, only releasable systems will be used.

The clients must be instructed how to carry and protect gear in transit as well as
when in use.

Clients and instructors will wear helmets at all times when climbing. Instructors
will use their discretion at lunchtime and while approaching and departing from
the crag.
